There's Gold In The Air
Radio Gets A Say In Awards
The National Gold Medallion Awards are judged by Australian
radio presenters from every state, and are representative of
radio airplay for the current year. They are judged in
divisions, adopting 'state of origin' rules and recognise
recording artists whose hit singles are receiving widespread
airplay.
Several of Australia’s most renowned touring artists reside
in Tamworth these days, making Australia’s country music
capital their home.
Amongst this years winners, each having secured these titles
in the past, were Lindsay Butler (NSW Musician of the
Year), Brian Letton (Central West Male Vocalist of
the Year), Shaza Leigh (QLD Female Vocalist of the
Year), and Lynette Guest (South East Female Vocalist
of the Year).
Debut recording artist, Peggy Gilchrist won (QLD New
Talent of the Year). Peggy was born in St George Qld even
though she moved to Tamworth and spent most of her childhood
in Tamworth.
The two National awards were won by Lindsay Butler
(Male Artist of the Year on Radio) and Shaza Leigh
(Female Artist of the Year on Radio). The Butlers have
enjoyed a national touring career with their show for over
20 years and still travel to most parts of Australia as does
Brian Letton with his touring show.
Lynette Guest has again become a popular favourite on
Festivals across Australia since resuming her recording
career several years ago.
